16 Chinese Insurers and Banks Rank in the 2025 Fortune Global 500!
The 2025 Fortune Global 500 list has been unveiled, featuring which Chinese insurers and banks have made it onto the list?
Overall, China had a total of 9 banks and 7 insurance companies that entered the list. On the banking side, 8 banks saw their rankings drop compared to last year, with Minsheng Bank leading the decline by 36 places. In contrast, Agricultural Bank of China ranked higher and surpassed Construction Bank of China, ranking second among domestic banks; while Chinese Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (601628) surpassed Ping An Insurance Group Co. of China, Ltd. (601318), ranking first among domestic insurance companies.
It's worth noting that a total of 6 Chinese insurers and banks entered the top 100 of the Fortune Global 500 list, including Bank of Communications, Agricultural Bank of China, Construction Bank of China, Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), and Postal Savings Bank of China.
Among state-owned big banks, ICBC, Agricultural Bank of China, Construction Bank of China, and Bank of China all ranked in the top 40 globally, with rankings of 26th, 30th, 31st, and 38th respectively; while Commercial Bank of China ranked 168th.
Among shareholding banks, Zheshang Bank Co., Ltd. (600036), Xinyuan Bank Co., Ltd. (601166), Pudue Bank Co., Ltd. (600000), Minsheng Bank, and Agricultural Bank of China all entered the list, with rankings of 193rd, 242nd, 309th, 387th, and 456th respectively.
Looking at changes in ranking, a total of 8 domestic banks saw their rankings drop compared to last year. The biggest decline was Minsheng Bank, which fell by 36 places; followed by Pudue Bank Co., Ltd., which dropped by 17 places; Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which dropped by 14 places; and Commercial Bank of China, which also dropped by 14 places.
On the other hand, Agricultural Bank of China was the only bank that saw its ranking rise, moving up 4 places.
It's worth noting that Agricultural Bank of China overtook Construction Bank of China to rank second among domestic banks; while ICBC remained in first place.
China Life Insurance Co., Ltd. surpasses Ping An Insurance Group Co. of China, Ltd.!

Among domestic insurance companies, China Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (601628) saw its ranking rise to become the top-ranked company in China; Ping An Insurance Group Co. of China, Ltd. (601318) ranked second; while New China Life Insurance Co., Ltd. re-entered the list.
Looking at changes in ranking, 6 insurance companies saw their rankings rise compared to last year. The biggest gain was Taiping Insurance Group Co., Ltd. (601601), which rose by 80 places; followed by Tianan Life Insurance Co., Ltd., which rose by 47 places.
It's worth noting that China Life Insurance Co., Ltd. surpassed Ping An Insurance Group Co. of China, Ltd. to rank first among domestic insurance companies; while Ping An Insurance Group Co. of China, Ltd. ranked second.
Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) becomes the only Chinese company to enter the top 10 in terms of profit!
Aside from the above-mentioned rankings, Fortune also released other lists.
Among the top 50 companies that made the most money, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) became the only Chinese company to enter the top 10, with profits exceeding $508 billion.

Aside from ICBC, other banks and insurance companies that entered the list include Construction Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, Industrial Bank Co., Ltd. (601988), Postal Savings Bank of China, and China Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (601628).
Among the top 50 companies with the highest profit rates, one domestic bank entered the top 10, namely Zheshang Bank Co., Ltd. (600036) at the 10th spot.

Among the industry rankings, the "Banking and Commercial Banking" sector had the most companies on the list, with 61 banks ranking first; followed by the "Automotive and Components" and "Refining" sectors. Additionally, the "Property and Accident Insurance (Shareholding)" sector ranked 6th, with 17 companies; while the "Life and Health Insurance (Mutual)" sector ranked 15th, with 13 companies on the list.
