China's Auto Enterprises Can Help Us Achieve Our Goals
July 30, 2025, Dennis Chuah, chairman of the Malaysian Electric Vehicle Association (MEVA), delivered a keynote speech at the 2025 World Intelligent Automotive Conference in Chongqing.
Securities Times reporter: As an important figure driving the development of electric vehicles in Malaysia, Mr. Chuah has been frequenting China to learn more about the new energy vehicle industry and seeking cooperation opportunities with Chinese companies.
Mr. Chuah believes that Chinese auto enterprises should seize the opportunity to help Malaysia's electric vehicle industry grow. He pointed out that Malaysia is currently in a period of rapid growth, and there are many opportunities for development.
In his speech, Mr. Chuah emphasized that the development of new energy vehicles requires government support and subsidies. He believes that if Chinese auto enterprises can establish local production bases and hire and train local employees, it will be a major boost to Malaysia's electric vehicle industry.
Mr. Chuah also stressed that the development of new energy vehicles is closely related to the construction of charging infrastructure. He hopes that the government can provide subsidies for the use of electric vehicles and encourage more people to choose environmentally friendly transportation modes.
Securities Times reporter: As a representative of MEVA, Mr. Chuah has been actively promoting cooperation between Malaysian companies and Chinese enterprises. What are your expectations for this cooperation?
Mr. Chuah: We hope that China's auto enterprises can strengthen their presence in Malaysia and help us achieve our goals. We believe that with the support of the government and the efforts of Chinese companies, we can make significant progress in developing the electric vehicle industry.
Securities Times reporter: What are your thoughts on the 15% target for new energy vehicles in Malaysia by 2030?
Mr. Chuah: We still believe that we can achieve this goal. However, it will require government support and subsidies for electric vehicle development.
Securities Times reporter: As the chairman of MEVA, what are your hopes for China's auto enterprises in Malaysia?
Mr. Chuah: We hope that Chinese auto enterprises can become stronger and more prominent players in the Malaysian market. We believe that with their support, we can achieve our goals and promote sustainable development.
