Controversy Over Apple Account Mistakenly Posting Samsung Video: Weibo Apologizes Overnight, Blames Network Cache Issue
Phoenix News Technology Report, August 1st, midnight. Sina Weibo issued an apology statement in response to the previous "Apple Support" official account mistakenly posting content from competitor Samsung. The statement explained that after investigation, the incident was caused by network loading and caching factors, which led users to see cached video content from other accounts when browsing the "@Apple Support" account's video posted on July 29th at 9:58 AM. Weibo also stated that it will upgrade soon to resolve related issues and prevent similar situations from happening again.
Sina Weibo CEO "Li Jiuchang" then forwarded the apology statement and added the hashtag "#Weibo Debunking#". This move sparked new controversy, with some netizens saying that the platform should have apologized sincerely about the event itself instead of using the word "debunk", which seemed to downplay the issue.
Prior to this, on July 29th, some netizens discovered that the official Apple Weibo account "Apple Support" posted a video with a caption introducing Apple's parental control feature for devices, but the attached video was actually an advertisement for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7. This "misalignment" quickly sparked heated discussions.
Regarding this matter, Apple's side has previously responded to media saying, "Apple Support only posts content related to Apple. We are communicating with Weibo to investigate the cause of this incident."
