Dragon Truck Responds to "Ideal i8 Hits a Heavy Truck" Again: Living Is the Only Qualification to Talk about Ideals, and the Crash Test Video Uses Old Cars! Eastwind Group Supports Eastwind Lyons in Upholding Their Legitimate Rights
August 2nd, Dragon Truck released a poster with a caption: "Living is the only qualification to talk about ideals. Again responding to the recent 'Ideal i8 hits a heavy truck' video wave."
On the evening of August 1st, Dragon Truck published a letter to its fans.
The letter stated that in recent days, Ideal Automobile has used a crash test video involving old trucks from our company in its product launch and online broadcasts, which has attracted widespread attention. After our company's technical verification and professional evaluation, we found that the related testing scenarios and equipment in the video have significant differences with actual traffic conditions. We call on everyone to view this matter from a scientific perspective."
Dragon Truck emphasized that "road safety is a matter of life and death. We urge everyone to strictly follow traffic regulations, maintain their vehicles regularly, and enhance their awareness of proactive prevention – this is more important than any test in building a solid and reliable safety barrier. Please rest assured to buy cars and drive safely."
According to an upstream news report, on the evening of August 1st, the Eastwind Group's strategic release and new car launch meeting was held in Wuhan. At the meeting, the Eastwind Group's spokesperson, Deputy General Manager of the Strategy Department Lu Haotao, commented on the Ideal i8 hitting a heavy truck event: "This incident has become a hot topic in the industry, and Eastwind Lyons has already made a formal statement from our company's perspective. We will wholeheartedly support Eastwind Lyons in upholding their legitimate rights and brand reputation. At present, we are still understanding the relevant parties involved, including the status of the crash test product itself and the current testing process."
Prior reports: Ideal had previously claimed it could live-stream a re-test
Recently, Ideal Automobile released its first pure electric SUV, the Ideal i8, and played a crash test video of the car hitting a heavy truck at the launch event.
In that crash test video, the Ideal i8 car collided with the heavy truck, causing four wheels to bounce off, and the driver's cab and rear compartment were significantly damaged. The experiment was carried out based on real-life traffic scenarios and was certified by professional third-party detection institutions.
Ideal Automobile's official response to the crash test video
Facing netizens' questions, Dragon Truck's official Douyin account replied that their legal department was handling the matter. They also said, "We've been deceived. Clever people can see through it. I don't know what the director behind this wants. In actual crashes, how do you think it will be?"
As of July 31st, Ideal Automobile's product manager @Old Tang replied to the Ideal i8 and heavy truck collision event: "Believe in authoritative institutions' professionalism. Why not do a re-test? @ Zhang Qiao." Subsequently, Ideal Automobile's product line manager Zhang Qiao replied: "Okay, we can live-stream it."
Later, the "Dragon Truck" WeChat account published an open letter titled "Eastwind Lyons Automobile Co., Ltd.'s Statement on Certain Brands Using Crash Test Videos Infringing on Our Rights"
Dragon Truck stated that "certain automobile brands have used our company's crash test videos, which has constituted severe infringement and exceeded normal commercial competition. This has caused huge negative impacts on our brand and reputation, involving violations of the Anti-Unfair Competition Law, Advertising Law, and Civil Code, among other relevant laws."
As of now, we have learned that certain automobile brands have not publicly disclosed information about the test vehicle's condition (whether both vehicles were modified or reduced in power, whether the wheels were securely fastened, and whether the vehicles had undergone inspections), testing environment (testing site conditions, speed, driving status, etc.), and custom-designed crash test scenarios. They have released a video showing an unrepresentative crash test result with significant differences from normal crashes, which not only tarnishes our brand image but also creates potential safety hazards for ordinary car owners."
On the morning of August 1st, Dragon Truck released a poster with a caption: "Safety is not an empty promise, but our concrete guardianship. The road has thousands of paths, and safety is the first path. Life is not a test site; don't take life as a joke. Dragon Truck reminds you: drive safely and follow traffic regulations."
