Elon Musk Confirms Robotaxi Platform Will Open to Public, Will Roll Out Fully Next Year
Phoenix Net Technology News August 12th, according to Teslarati, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the company's Robotaxi platform will open its services to the public and determined that Robotaxi will be fully rolled out next year.
It is reported that Tesla's Robotaxi platform launched a small-scale service in Austin, Texas on June 22nd. In the past half-month, Tesla has continued to expand its user scale and geographic coverage range, and simultaneously launched services in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The two areas have certain differences: The Texas version does not have a safety monitoring officer installed at the driver's seat, while the California version has a safety monitoring officer set up.
As the service area and test group expand, Tesla users are waiting for an invitation email to use the platform. Looking ahead, emails will arrive very soon, as Musk announced on social media yesterday, "Robotaxi will open public usage permission next month."
Tesla has always placed safety at the top of its Robotaxi platform, therefore it has been delayed in sending out invitations to new users. Based on data validation, the company is full of confidence in the platform's ability and autonomous driving suite, but knows that once an accident occurs, the development process may regress by several years, so Tesla does not want to take this risk.
Musk stated at a recent second-quarter earnings call, "We must ensure that vehicles are completely under our control, which requires step-by-step progress. As I said, we maintain extreme caution with regard to safety. But it is certain that next year users will be able to freely add or remove their vehicle's usage rights in the Tesla fleet, specific timing cannot be determined, but it will certainly be achieved by then.
Although the platform will open fully in Austin and the Bay Area next month, Tesla still reiterates that Robotaxi will roll out fully next year.
