Global New Materials International Completes Strategic Acquisition of Merck's Surface Solutions Business
Xinhua Technology News, August 1 afternoon news, Global New Materials International Holdings Limited (Global New Materials International) announced that it has completed the strategic acquisition of Merck's Surface Solutions business for €6.65 billion (approximately HK$55.86 billion), which will continue to operate under the Susonity brand.
According to introduction, this strategic acquisition further expands the group's main business coverage and sales channels. After the acquisition is completed, Surface Solutions' production facilities in Germany, Japan, and the United States will become regional centers for expanding businesses.
In addition, Susonity's professional solutions in high-performance materials, cosmetics, and industrial applications will also be integrated into GNMI's product portfolio, accelerating the group's penetration into key high-end markets, particularly in the global automotive and cosmetics industries.

According to reports, approximately 1,100 employees (including over 600 staff based in Germany) have transferred to Global New Materials International. GNMI has guaranteed the future development of the Gernsheim factory and employment for its German-based staff until 2032, under an agreement with Merck. In addition, Merck and GNMI have signed a series of supply and service agreements to ensure seamless transitions in businesses.
According to introduction, Global New Materials International was established in 2011 as a pigment manufacturer. The company has its headquarters in China's Guangxi Province and is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In 2024, the company's consolidated net income was CNY47.76 billion (approximately €6.15 billion).
Global New Materials International has approximately 2,000 employees, with main production bases located in China, South Korea, Germany, Japan, and the United States. The company's subsidiaries include Chesir, CQV, and Susonity, providing comprehensive solutions. Additionally, GNMI owns a series of products based on natural mica, synthetic mica, glass flakes, silicon oxide, aluminum oxide, and copper, which provide solutions for high-performance materials, cosmetics, automobiles, and industrial applications.
