Micromobility Pioneer Le Jun Launches Voting Initiative! Will Xiaomi YU7 Standard Edition Change Its Name?
Is the Xiaomi YU7 standard edition going to change its name?
On August 11th, Xiaomi Group founder, chairman, and CEO Le Jun posted on Weibo saying: “The Xiaomi YU7 standard edition is often mistakenly thought to be an entry-level or budget version. However, it’s actually very powerful, with a battery life of up to 835km, equipped with the Thor chip and laser radar, among other features, making it not inferior to the Pro and Max versions.”
At the same time, Le Jun launched a voting initiative on Weibo asking, “Do you support changing the name of this version?” Over 5,000 people believed it should be named after competitors’ Pro or Max versions, while more than 13,000 people thought it should remain as is.
From a battery life perspective, the Xiaomi YU7 standard edition has a battery life of up to 835km, making it the first in its class among mid-to-large-sized pure electric SUVs. The four-wheel drive model has a battery life of up to 770km. In terms of smart driving capabilities, the Xiaomi YU7 series comes with 100 million Clippings and end-to-end autonomous driving assistance, with vertical comfort increased by 57%, success rate at intersections increased by 67%, and passing rate through intersections increased by 23%. All high-level assistive driving hardware is fully equipped.
According to recent data from Yi Che, the Xiaomi YU7 scored first in the pure electric vehicle category in a new energy extreme battery life test, with an absolute maximum of 457.7km. The same test showed that the Xiaomi YU7 SUV took first place in the pure electric SUV category, with an absolute maximum of 393.4km.
From a pricing perspective, the Xiaomi YU7 standard edition is priced at 2535,000 yuan, while the YU7 Pro edition is priced at 27,990 yuan and the YU7 Max edition is priced at 32,990 yuan. Prior to its June 26th launch day, Xiaomi announced that the Xiaomi YU7 had achieved a dazzling sales performance of over 20,000 units within three minutes, with 28,900 units sold within one hour.
According to data released by Yi Che, the Xiaomi YU7 had a sales volume of 6,042 units in July. Currently, the Xiaomi YU7 is still in the production ramp-up phase. According to the Xiaomi Car App, the current delivery time for the standard edition is 56-59 weeks, while the Pro and Max editions have delivery times of 47-50 and 42-45 weeks, respectively.
Research reports from Guoxin Securities indicate that Xiaomi’s main production bases are located in Beijing, Wuhan, and Shanghai. The first phase of the Beijing factory has successfully ramped up to a monthly production capacity of 300,000 units; the second phase is set to start production soon, which will help absorb large orders for the YU7. Additionally, Xiaomi recently acquired a plot of land measuring over 480,000 square meters in Yizhuang District, Beijing, which is expected to become the third-phase factory.
Guoxin Securities also predicts that Xiaomi’s car sales will reach 4-5 million units in 2025 and exceed 8 million units in 2026. Based on current data from new car models’ orders, it is estimated that before the mass production capacity of multiple reserve factories comes online, the first-phase and second-phase factories will continue to operate at full capacity.
