Practicality, My Confidence at 30
By@Swing of Wind
30 is a magical age. It's not as idealistic as being a student in your teens or as naive and inexperienced as being in your early twenties just entering the workforce.
I'm an ordinary person, but time has been quite mysterious. I've never eaten pig meat, but I've seen pigs run around. After seeing many things, I finally understand what's going on.
This world indeed operates under two sets of rules, with no fairness to speak of. The only thing that can be said is that it's relatively fair.
As an ordinary person, since I can't change the world or the environment, all I can do is survive and make a living. That's the most important thing.
The First Guarantor of Survival is Work
I have work, which means I have income. I'd like to cover my living expenses passively, but that's not currently possible.
I graduated from university and got a job in my hometown, but it's located in a relatively remote area, so I commute to work every day from the small town where I live.
This is a common phenomenon here. The areas we work in are generally rural and backward, so there are few talented individuals who come out of these places. When we went to work in those areas, it was like leaving our hometowns behind.
Although working will take up some time for commuting, my income is relatively stable. My starting salary was low, but it gradually increased. At least, it's not too low compared to the local average. It's a bit below average, but I'm okay with that. With economic security, I can slowly set up other forms of security.
The Second Guarantor is Insurance
I've already purchased major medical insurance, accidental injury insurance, and welfare insurance, as well as an annuity insurance policy.
In my opinion, after ensuring a stable income and solving the problem of eating and drinking, it's reasonable to purchase basic insurance such as major medical insurance and accidental injury insurance.
This year, I bought a house using all my savings. The major medical insurance policy covers me for 300,000 yuan. If I worked for 10 years without saving this amount, it would be impossible.
So, it's still practical to buy insurance and have another form of security.
Major medical insurance costs around 9,000 yuan per year. Although it's expensive, the policy is lifetime coverage. Buying a lifetime policy is also to ensure peace of mind, because if I get sick, the insurance may not be able to compensate me adequately, and I won't be able to buy another one in the future.
Accidental injury insurance costs just a few hundred yuan per year. It's no big deal.
Medical insurance is something that healthy people can purchase commercially. As for me, I bought welfare insurance, although it pays out less than commercial insurance. At least, it's better than nothing.
The annuity insurance policy is to allow me to control my current expenses and save money for the future. Moreover, if I encounter difficulties in the future, I can withdraw the funds early without any penalties, which provides me with a sense of security.
The Third Guarantor is Buying a House
My husband contributes more to the down payment than I do, but after extracting our public housing funds, we put them together.
As a Chinese person, I still want to own a house with my name on it.
I currently live with my parents and will get married soon, so I need to obtain a marriage certificate. Therefore, I got the certificate first.
The down payment for buying a house mainly comes from our combined savings after working. I happened to buy a house during a time when my investments were in the red, but this was also a good opportunity to buy a house, so I took the plunge and told my husband about it. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough money, so I borrowed 10,000 yuan from my younger brother.
In my opinion, relying on parents is not as good as relying on oneself, especially in areas like Chaoshan, where parents' assets are unlikely to be left for their daughters. Therefore, I want to buy a house and rely on myself. I must firmly believe in the importance of buying a house.
Renting a house can be a way of life for young people. However, if you look sick or elderly, landlords may not want to rent a house to you.
The Fourth Guarantor is Marriage
I chose to get married and have children when I had the freedom to do so, even though we're still in the process of adjusting to each other.
In terms of finances, we are far from achieving financial independence. Therefore, it's necessary to be practical. Find a partner who will accompany you when you're older.
If my body and finances permit, I'd like to have children. It doesn't matter what kind of life they lead; even if they get sick, someone can help me go to the doctor. After all, the birth rate is low in the future, and the costs of raising children will increase.
At 30, I've come to realize that as an ordinary person, I'm in a certain circle, with a certain economic condition, without financial independence. Therefore, it's necessary to be practical.
Becoming Practical is Living Well
Actually, my life has been pretty good. Finally, let me say that staying healthy is the most important thing! Money can't buy health; only a healthy body gives you hope.
