According to the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Earth Physics, Kamchatka Branch, the earthquake that occurred on July 30th off the eastern coast of Kamchatka had a magnitude of 8.7 on the Richter scale, making it the strongest earthquake in the Kamchatka region since 1952.
