Summer Health Check-Ups for Children Often Caused by Insufficient Exercise, with Over 44,000 Fitness Training Institutions Across the Country
During the summer period, the pediatric ophthalmology and orthopedic departments of Chongqing Children's Hospital experience a surge in patients, with myopia, scoliosis, obesity, and psychological issues on the rise.
Data shows that nearly 50% of children and teenagers in China have myopia, and related diseases such as scoliosis, obesity, and emotional disorders are frequent. Research finds that insufficient exercise is a common underlying cause of these health problems - prolonged sitting learning, electronic product invasion of leisure time, and restricted outdoor activities lead to the vicious cycle of "the fatter one gets, the less active" and "the more sedentary one becomes, the more anxious".
The effects of exercise deficiency permeate all aspects of physical and mental health: children with scoliosis often have an abnormal sitting posture, myopia is related to a lack of sunlight stimulation, and obesity triggers metabolic abnormalities and precocious puberty. Moreover, psychological problems in patients are often caused by exercise dysfunction avoidance social interaction, further exacerbating emotional difficulties.
In response, we should try "exercise prescriptions" rather than simply seeking medical treatment: engage in outdoor activities for 1-2 hours a day, design personalized stretching and ball exercises for different diseases, emphasize interest-based guidance, and control summer homework loads to free up time for children's physical activity, allowing health to return to the growth track.
