Xinhua Tech News August 15, 2025. Autonomous driving technology company Wen Yuan announced that Grab, a super-application platform in Southeast Asia, would invest over $500 million in its equity as part of their strategic cooperation to accelerate the large-scale deployment of L4 robotaxis and other autonomous vehicles in the region. The expected completion date for this investment is not later than the first half of 2026, with the specific timeline determined by Wen Yuan's selection of time points and transaction conditions.
As part of this strategic cooperation, Wen Yuan will apply its independently developed autonomous driving technology to Grab's fleet management, vehicle matching, and route planning systems. Additionally, Wen Yuan and Grab will jointly conduct skill training for willing Grab drivers and local community personnel, helping them transition into the autonomous driving industry and achieve high-value career development paths.
Wen Yuan founder and CEO Han Xun said, "Our vision for Wen Yuan's development in Southeast Asia is to combine local regulations and social acceptance with gradual deployment of thousands of robotaxis."
Grab co-founder and group CEO Chen Bingyao said, "We hope that every Southeast Asian resident can enjoy reliable transportation services whenever needed. However, labor shortages are still a major challenge. We believe that autonomous vehicles can complement our driver network in areas where labor is scarcer.".
