The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) Impact Index Forum was held in Shanghai on November 8. The forum released the "Research Report on the CIIE Impact Index (2024)" which shows that the impact of the 6th CIIE, held in 2023, further highlighted its effects on the national and local economies, particularly in promoting domestic consumption upgrade and expanding imports. The overall score of the 6th CIIE Impact Index was 72, reaching a new high, with an increase of 25% compared to the 5th CIIE's 57.75, and a staggering 169% increase compared to the first CIIE's 26.74.
Former Minister of Commerce Chen Deming pointed out that the CIIE has played a significant role in promoting international procurement, investment, cultural exchanges, cooperation, consumer upgrade, and industrial transformation. The expo attracted over 500 multinational companies and industry leaders from various sectors, with more than 150 countries and regions participating, facilitating cross-border trade and cultural exchange, further consolidating China's trade cooperation with major economies. The CIIE also introduced advanced technologies globally, driving the development of high-tech manufacturing and services in China, promoting related industries' transformation and upgrading, and strengthening domestic industry chains' international competitiveness.
Shanghai United Front Work Department former head and Shanghai Public Relations Association chairman Sha Hai-Lin said that the CIIE has built a "garden of global culture", promoting people-to-people exchanges and cooperation. Countries have established trade and friendly cooperation based on mutual understanding and respect, with both economic and cultural exchange playing important roles. The expo has provided a platform for these two aspects to coexist and complement each other, serving as the key link for gathering resources. Looking at the growth of the CIIE Impact Index, it is evident that the CIIE holds enormous potential in promoting global economic development and cultural exchanges.
