Observations | A New Spring in Chengdu's Consumer Market
In a bid to revamp its consumer market, Chengdu has launched a new campaign called "Chengdu's New Spring" which will run from December 20th, 2024, to February 14th, 2025. The campaign aims to promote the city's fashion industry and attract more tourists.
The campaign will feature over 200 events and activities across different themes, including "Chengdu's New Year Six Things" which encourages people to buy new clothes, get a haircut, give gifts, drink champagne, eat special meals, and go on outings. The city's fashion industry has been growing rapidly in recent years, with the number of high-end brands setting up shop in Chengdu increasing by 30%.
The "first store economy" has become a major driving force behind Chengdu's consumer market. In 2023, the city saw a record-high retail sales volume of over 10 billion yuan, and in the first 11 months of 2024, the total volume reached 9.294 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year growth of 2.9%.
Chengdu has also been actively promoting its e-commerce industry, with many online fashion brands setting up physical stores in the city. The city's young consumers are highly sought after by these brands, and Chengdu has become a key hub for their business.
The city's consumer market is expected to continue growing rapidly, driven by its "first store economy" and e-commerce industry. In the coming years, Chengdu will focus on developing its tourism industry and creating more unique experiences for tourists.
