AI Plus Robot Plus Medical, Empowering Surgeons to "Open-Book" Surgery
【River Financial Reporter Wang Xin Xia Chenxiang】What kind of "chemical reaction" will AI and robot collaboration produce in the medical field?
From August 8th to 12th, the 2025 World Robot Conference was held in Beijing, with over 200 domestic and foreign excellent robot companies participating, showcasing the cutting-edge technologies and new developments in the robot research and production fields.
During the conference, Beijing Longmu Valley Medical Technology Co., Ltd. ("Longmu Valley") launched its new-generation ROPA orthopedic intelligent surgical robot globally.
According to reports, this robotic system is composed of three core modules: "Intelligent Brain" uses AI technology to generate personalized 3D surgical plans based on patient CT images; "Intelligent Eye" features a millimeter-level optical tracking system for real-time monitoring of patient positioning changes; and "Intelligent Hand" performs precise operations such as bone cutting.
Longmu Valley is a national high-tech enterprise focused on orthopedic AI and robotic solutions, providing hospitals with AI-assisted diagnosis, personalized surgical planning, robotics, and post-operative assessment services.
Regarding the global launch of its new-generation ROPA orthopedic intelligent surgical robot, Longmu Valley's Chairman Zhang Yilin explained that ROPA is an AI-powered robotic system for orthopedic surgery. In October 2023, Longmu Valley independently developed AIJOINT (Orthopedic Surgical Simulation Software) and obtained a registration certificate from the National Medical Products Administration, making it the first AI-assisted orthopedic treatment product in China.
"This product has pioneered the integration of three-dimensional reconstruction, intelligent planning, and precise execution with AI assessment, breaking down traditional barriers between individual components of bone surgery," Zhang Yilin said.
How can ROPA orthopedic intelligent surgical robots assist surgeons in performing surgeries? Zhang Yilin told reporters, "For example, traditionally, orthopedic surgeons may need to open up a patient's joint to clearly understand the extent of bone damage. In surgery, they rely on experience and judgment to determine individual situations. Now, our robotic system can build a 3D model of the patient's bones based on AI technology before surgery, helping surgeons develop more precise surgical plans. Additionally, surgeons can rehearse surgeries through computer simulations, making it equivalent to an 'open-book' exam."
In reality, under the strong driving force of "AI Plus," the medical industry is experiencing revolutionary development, with robotic technology advancing and clinical applications becoming increasingly active.
According to a research report by Fung Group Securities, "AI Plus" will drive the medical industry's revolution, with brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), surgical robots, and other high-end innovative devices accelerating their landing and application expansion. BCI commercialization continues to accelerate, driven by domestic regulatory approvals for safety, ethics, and large-scale rehabilitation patient groups. Non-invasive BCIs are accelerating their deployment in healthcare rehabilitation, emotional management, and other fields, with vast market prospects.
At the same time, insurance payments are continuously improving their payment systems, driving China's BCI market expansion. As AI technology rapidly develops, surgical robots will achieve integration with AI, 5G remote technologies, and other technologies, driven by factors such as aging populations, uneven medical resource distribution, and terminal demand for surgical robots. It is expected that China's surgical robot market size will exceed 7 billion yuan by 2030.
