IDEAL Automobile's Response to the Crash Test of i8 and Yongli Truck
Viewpoint News: On August 3rd evening, IDEAL Automobile officially released a statement on Weibo, responding to the crash test of their i8 model and Yongli truck.
IDEAL Automobile stated that after releasing the crash test video, it sparked widespread attention and discussions. In response to the public's concerns, we will provide the following explanations:
One: Why conduct this test
IDEAL Automobile prioritizes user safety above all else and is committed to creating a safe and reassuring driving space for every family. To achieve this, we adopted the "short front suspension safety structure" design during the development of our i8 model. This design ensures both the provision of ample interior space and passive safety performance.
To ensure the reliability of our new design, we decided to conduct active simulations of real-life scenarios that are critical to user safety. We then scientifically verified and continuously improved our i8's passive safety performance. This time, we entrusted a third-party authoritative institution, China Automobile Engineering Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "China Auto"), with conducting high-intensity crash tests, and the test process and results were transparently showcased through video.
In the face of complex and unpredictable real-world road environments, we recognize the danger of small cars colliding with large trucks. This has always been a highly demanding requirement for vehicle safety, and it is one of the most concerned topics among passenger car users, as well as a widely adopted test and promotional method by many mainstream automotive companies.
Two: Performance of the crash test
This test was conducted in accordance with the requirements for ordinary highway traffic accidents, and China Auto executed the tests. As a national-level research institution, China Auto is an important platform for product development, testing, and quality inspection in the automotive industry. We highly recognize their professional ability and the scientific nature of their test results.
IDEAL i8's innovative short front suspension safety structure features three longitudinal force transmission paths forward and 11 ring-shaped absorption structures within the front compartment, effectively dissipating the impact force from a frontal collision and enhancing the vehicle's passive safety level. After this test, the A-pillar, B-pillar, C-pillar, and door frame of our i8 model did not exhibit significant deformation, all nine airbags were deployed normally, the battery pack showed no leakage or ignition, and the doors automatically unlocked and the door handles popped open.
Three: Public opinion on this event
This test aims solely to verify and improve our i8's passive safety performance, rather than evaluating the quality of other brands. The test results should not be interpreted as a judgment on the quality of other products. We used Yongli truck as a movable barrier material, without intentionally or unintentionally assessing its quality.
Regarding online discussions about this event, we hope to clarify that our intention is to provide transparency and authenticity through this statement, rather than stirring up controversy.
Four: Hot topics for netizens' discussion
During the development of our i8 model, we strictly followed the latest national standards (GB 11551-2014, GB 20071-2025, and GB 20072-2024). Our i8 model also meets the requirements for China's new car assessment program C-NCAP 24 edition and China Insurance Automobile Safety Index C-IASI 23 edition.
