Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Sales Soar, Help EssilorLuxottica Break 140 Billion Euro Mark
According to reports, global largest eyewear manufacturer EssilorLuxottica SA announced on Monday that its collaboration with Meta (META.US) has led to a surge in sales of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which has helped the company break the 140.2 billion euro mark for total sales in the first half of the year, representing a 7.3% increase.
EssilorLuxottica CEO Francesco Milleri and Vice-Chief Executive Paul du Saillant stated in a joint statement: "We are leading the revolution in eyewear as the next-generation computing platform, where artificial intelligence, sensing technology, and rich data healthcare infrastructure will converge, empowering humans and unleashing our full potential. The success of Ray-Ban Meta, the release of Oakley Meta Performance AI glasses, and the positive response to Nuance Audio, are all significant milestones in this new field."
EssilorLuxottica reported that its newly released Oakley Meta smart glasses, launched in June, is the latest product line from its collaboration with Meta. Media reports earlier had stated that Meta and EssilorLuxottica plan to release a Prada-branded smart glasses in the future.
EssilorLuxottica has multiple well-known brands under its umbrella, including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Vogue Eyewear, and Persol.
According to a September announcement last year, Meta and EssilorLuxottica signed a long-term cooperation agreement, committing to develop multiple generations of smart glasses over the next ten years.
Separately, media reports in early July stated that Facebook's parent company Meta acquired a 2.9% stake in EssilorLuxottica for approximately 30 billion euros (35 billion USD). Insiders revealed that Meta is considering additional investments and may gradually increase its stake to around 5%, although such plans remain uncertain.
